About Aircon Wars

Aircon Wars was born during a heatwave, in a flat with no air conditioning, out of pure sweaty desperation. The first proper hot spell of the year had arrived, the country had collectively decided to buy a portable air conditioner on the same morning, and every model worth owning was sold out by the time we’d finished our coffee. We did what everyone does: opened a dozen retailer tabs, found “out of stock” a dozen times, and slowly cooked.

The comparison sites were no help. They cheerfully listed units that had been gone for weeks, ranked them by who-knows-what, and left us doing the actual legwork ourselves. So we built the thing we’d wanted at 31 degrees with a fan that was just moving the hot air around. Aircon Wars pulls live stock and pricing from multiple UK retailers and floats the units you can genuinely buy right nowto the top. In a heatwave, knowing what’s in stock beats another beautifully written list of the “best” coolers you have no chance of getting.

Editorial independence

We’re an independent affiliate site, and we’re upfront about it. We earn a commission when you buy through our links, but that money has precisely zero say in what we list or the order we list it in. The ranking is the same for everyone: in stock first, then cheapest. We don’t sell placement, and we won’t bury a better-value unit just because a pricier one would line our pockets a little more. If a retailer wants the top spot, they can do it the old-fashioned way, by having the thing in stock for less. The full details live in our affiliate disclosure.

Honest about the data

Live stock is genuinely hard, and we’re not going to pretend it isn’t. Feeds lag, some quantities are educated estimates, and a unit can sell out in the time it takes you to find your card details. So we label everything indicative, stamp every listing with when it was last updated, and always send you straight to the retailer’s live page for the final word. If you enjoy the unglamorous mechanics of how all that works, our methodology page is a surprisingly readable account of it.

Built for UK shoppers

Everything here is built for Britain: prices in actual pounds, UK retailers, and BTU guidance sized to the kind of small, brick-built, never-designed-for- heat rooms we all live in. If a listing looks wrong or the data’s gone funny, do tell us. Keeping it accurate is the entire point, and we’d rather hear about it than have you melt.
